CR39 (Plastic Lenses)
CR39 lenses, known as plastic lenses in
layman's words, are most popular abroad and are being widely used in India too. Cost
factor is the main constraint, but the advantages of plastic lenses over glass clearly
outweigh this factor.
CR39 (Plastic Lenses) are available in
clear white, tints, photochromatic, hi-index and Anti-Reflecting Coating.
- CR39 lenses are much lighter even for higher
powers and as a result are far more comfortable to wear.
- CR39 lenses are shatterproof and hence a
must for children where, even in case of an impact it does not splinter into pieces.
- CR39 lenses have the property of cutting a
portion of the Ultra-Violet rays, which the ordinary glasses do not offer.
- CR39 lenses are however more prone to
scratches which can be overcome to a certain extent with little extra care and the use of
scratch-resistant coating.

HI-INDEX LENSES
These are a type of glass having higher refractive index. They are recommended for high
power prescriptions in order to reduce the thickness of the lenses. This is particularly
more effective in high minus where it reduces the thickness of the lens and
proportionately the weight, compared to ordinary glass of the same power. It further
enhances the cosmetic look by largely eliminating the peripheral concentric rings present
in high minus powers.

A Lens minus lens in Hi-Index with Anti-Reflection coating
can really make your spectacles feel like as though you are wearing a frame alone. The
Lens looks absolutely in conspicuous. Hi-Index lenses are available in clear white glass
tinted glass and photochromatic glass version.
ANTI-REFLECTION COATING
The A.R. coating is a film coated on the surfaces of opthalmic lenses to combat glare from
reflecting sources at working place and the dazzle from the head lights of oncoming
vehicles while driving at night.

The A.R. coating is also available in high power glasses
especially minus where it enhances the cosmetic value of the spectacles: Lenses
without antireflection coating transmits only 92% of light through the lens and the
remaining 8% is reflected. With Anti- reflection coating, the transmission can be
increased to 99% from 85%, thus improving the clarity of vision and eliminating ghost
images of objects viewed.
Advantages :
- Eliminating Reflections.
- Filter out Ultra-Violet Light
- Makes your glasses lens conspicuous and
hence more attractive.
- Reduces eye fatigue in office and under
artificial light.
- Helps to avoid glare during night driving
from an on coming car headlight.
